Last-Minute Score Trips Up Warriors

FREMONT, Neb. – Midland University returned to the turf at Heedum Field on Tuesday, hosting Kansas Wesleyan University for a conference matchup. The Coyotes scored a touchdown and converted a two-point attempt in the final minute to edge the Warriors, 15-14, in Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference (KCAC) action.

With under a minute left in the first half, Midland took the lead as Angel Ioane Kaio connected with Jocelyn Lopez on a four-yard touchdown pass. The ensuing one-point attempt was successful, with Ioane Kaio finding Olivia Dominguez-Millsop near the front pylon. The Warriors carried a 7-0 lead into halftime.

In the second half, KWU tied the game on its second possession, completing a 44-yard pass down the sideline. A successful PAT evened the score at 7-7 with 3:32 left in the third quarter.

Midland answered on its next drive, as Ioane Kaio found Dominguez-Millsop for a 12-yard touchdown. Another successful PAT put the Warriors ahead 14-7 with 9:50 to play.

After two stalled drives for each team, KWU swung the momentum with a 59-yard touchdown pass with 43 seconds remaining, pulling within one. Opting to go for the win, the Coyotes completed a two-point conversion on a pass to the back of the end zone, taking a 15-14 lead.

Midland had one final chance in the closing seconds, but Ioane Kaio's pass was intercepted at the KWU 6-yard line as time expired.

The Warriors (4-5, 1-3 KCAC) return to action on Wednesday, March 26, when they travel to Lamoni, Iowa, to face Graceland (3-3, 2-3 KCAC). Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. at Huntsman Field.
