OTTAWA, Kan. – Midland University opened its season on Sunday at the Midwest Spring Kickoff Classic, hosted by Ottawa University. The Warriors went 1-2 in games against Kansas Wesleyan University, Baker University, and Ottawa University at AdventHealth Field.
Game One: Kansas Wesleyan 33, Midland 14
Kansas Wesleyan jumped out to a 33-0 lead before Midland got on the board with a 10-yard touchdown pass from Angel Ioane Kaio to Allaya Livingston with 8:14 remaining in the game. The Warriors added another score on a 1-yard pass from Ioane Kaio to Olivia Dominguez-Millsop with 1:59 left, making the final score 33-14.
The Coyotes outgained Midland 245-196 and forced two Warrior interceptions. Cydnee Redd led the Midland defense with four tackles.
Game Two: Midland 33, Baker 19
Midland's offense totaled 325 yards in the win, outpacing Baker's 233 yards. Ioane Kaio completed 27-of-37 passes for 261 yards and one touchdown but was intercepted three times.
Dominguez-Millsop threw a 59-yard touchdown pass to Alyssa Butler and also recorded two interceptions on defense, returning one 29 yards for a touchdown. Butler finished with five receptions for 96 yards and a score. Redd once again led the defense with seven tackles.
Game Three: Ottawa 34, Midland 0
Ottawa controlled the game, outgaining Midland 316-80. The Braves' three quarterbacks combined to complete 22-of-30 passes for 273 yards and five touchdowns. Myana Sigers led the Warriors with four tackles.
Midland (1-2) will return to action on Wednesday, March 5, when it travels to North Newton, Kansas, to face Bethel College. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. at Thresher Stadium.
