
Warriors Roll Past Graceland; Winning Streak Reaches Six Games
FREMONT, Neb. – Angel Ioane Kaio threw seven touchdown passes on offense while the Midland University defense was stingy in a 54-0 flag football victory over Graceland, Wednesday night at Heedum Field. With the shutout, the Warriors have held their opponents scoreless over the last three games.
Midland scored twice in the opening quarter. With 8:49 remaining, Ioane Kaio connected with Alyssa Butler on a 9-yard touchdown pass. The conversion attempt failed, and Midland led 6-0. On the Warriors next possession, Ioane Kaio found Mikaela Nunez over the middle for a 6-yard score. The conversion pass to Allaya Livingston was good, and Midland led 13-0.
In the second quarter, Midland added another score, just before halftime. With 1:14 remaining, Ioane Kaio found Nunez open, for a 15-yard scoring strike. Nunez ran the ball in on the conversion, putting the Warriors ahead 20-0, which would be the score at halftime.
Three more Warriors scores occurred in the third quarter. With 10:01 remaining, Ioane Kaio threw a 23-yard touchdown pass to Livingston. The conversion failed, and Midland led 26-0. After a turnover, and using the short field, Ioane Kaio dumped off a 1-yard pass to Olivia Dominguez-Millsop, for a score. Ioane Kaio's conversion pass was good to Myana Sigers, putting the Warriors up, 33-0, with 8:01 left in the quarter. With 3:44 left in the quarter, Butler caught a 23-yard pass from Ioane Kaio for a touchdown. The conversion pass to Jocelyn Lopez was good, and Midland led 40-0.
The Warriors added two scores in the fourth quarter. With 11:54 to play, Ioane Kaio threw her seventh touchdown of the night. The 13-yard pass to Butler was the third scoring connection for the two on the evening. Nunez ran in the conversion to make it 47-0. Then, with 7:07 left, Nunez threw a 13-yard score to Livingston. Emily Ferron ran the conversion in, to make the final tally, 54-0.
Midland accumulated 223 yards of offense and held Graceland to 78. Angel Ioane Kaio was 17-for-27 passing for 176 yards and 7 touchdowns. Mikaela Nunez led the team in rushing, carrying the ball once, for 18 yards. Alyssa Butler caught three passes for 44 yards and three touchdowns. Allaya Livingston hauled in four passes for 52 yards and two scores. Mikaela Nunez had two receptions for 21 yards and two touchdowns. Olivia Dominguez-Millsop caught three passes for 11 yards and one touchdown.
The Warriors were led on defense by Mikaela Nunez. The reigning KCAC Defensive Player of the Week recorded six tackles. Olivia Dominguez-Millsop and Allaya Livingston both recorded three tackles and an interception.
Midland (7-2, 7-2 KCAC) will return to action Wednesday, March 27 versus St. Mary. Action begins at 6:00 p.m. at Charles Berkel Memorial Stadium in Leavenworth, Kansas.
