Bio

Mike Cunningham joined the Midland University coaching staff ahead of the 2025 season as the run game coordinator and offensive line coach. Prior to his arrival at Midland, Cunningham served as the offensive line coach at Northwest Missouri State, a position he held since 2017.
During his tenure with the Bearcats, Cunningham guided multiple offensive linemen to all-MIAA honors. In 2023, Derec Weyer earned second-team all-MIAA status, while Wes Merriman and Jake Winslow received honorable mention recognition. Under Cunningham's leadership, the Bearcat offensive line helped pave the way for Jay Harris, who became the only NCAA player at any level to rush for 100 or more yards in every game that season.
In 2021, Cunningham’s offensive line played a crucial role in Northwest’s success, ranking No. 13 in the nation in total offense (457.5 yards per game). The unit protected quarterback Mike Hohensee, who led the nation in passing completion percentage (73.6%) and passing efficiency (187.3 rating), while also clearing lanes for Harlon Hill Trophy finalist Al McKeller, the MIAA’s leading rusher with 1,601 yards. That season, left tackle Tanner Owen secured first-team all-MIAA honors for the third consecutive year before signing a free-agent deal with the Buffalo Bills.
Before his time at Northwest Missouri State, Cunningham spent two seasons (2015-16) at Winona State University as the Warriors' run game coordinator and offensive line coach. He helped transform the offensive line, reducing sacks allowed by half in his first season while improving the team’s rushing attack significantly.
Cunningham has also had coaching stints at Nebraska (offensive staff assistant, 2014), North Dakota (offensive line coach, 2013), Minnesota State (offensive line coach and run game coordinator, 2006-12), and Concordia-St. Paul (offensive line coach, 2004-05).
A graduate of New Mexico State University, Cunningham earned his bachelor's degree in Family Sciences in 2001. He is married to his wife, Andrea, and the couple has three children: Trevin, Alyssa, and Alex.
