Warriors Sweep Awards at Wayne State Shoot

LINCOLN, Neb. – As its fall season starts to wind down, Midland University is starting to hit its stride. This past weekend the Warriors came away with team wins in each of the three disciplines en route to a team title. Additionally, MU had the HOA male and female shooters of the meet with several others close behind.

In American Trap, the Warriors hit 478 of 500 targets to take the team title. The squad was led by Audric Scheidel (98) with Devin Huguenot (96), Grayson Stuart (95), and Morgan Siebert (95) all close behind. Tying for the final spot, with 94s, were Mason Andelin, Adin Doll, and Samantha Nelson.

Midland's Sporting Clays team also had the top score of the shoot with 437 of 500 targets hit. Scheidel led the way once more with a 92 with Stuart and Amy Cawley close behind with 87s. Huguenot had an 86 while Ben Swanson, Dalton Blaha, and Domenic Teixeira all had scores of 85 for the fifth spot.

The Warriors completed the sweep with a score of 487 of 500 in American Skeet. Andelin and Cawley were nearly perfect, leading the way with 99s. Cole Kennedy shot a 97 for third-best while Sara Sjoberg, Brayden Bliss, and Josh Randall tied for the final two spots with 96s.

In the Team HOA, Midland's solid shooting throughout translated to a first-place finish as well. Scheidel (279), Cawley (277), Andelin (275), Huguenot (274), and Stuart (273) combined for a score of 1,378. The next highest team was Fort Hays State with a 1,315.

Taking the Male HOA award was Audric Scheidel while his teammate, Mason Andelin, placed third. On the women's side, Amy Cawley had the top total while Morgan Siebert and Samantha Nelson were second and third.

"It wasn't a pretty win, but it's still a win," commented head coach Jake McThenia "We had to battle the elements like everyone else. The kids were able to put it all together and come out on top. We're finally clicking at the right time in the fall season as we come up on Concordia and ACUI in the next few weeks."

Up next for Midland is the Bulldog Sporting Invite. They'll make the short trip to Brainard this coming weekend, October 21-22.
