Warriors Earn Runner-Up Finish at Conference Shoot

NORTH PLATTE, Neb. – This past weekend, Midland University took part in the Prairie Circuit Conference Championship out in North Platte, Nebraska. The Warriors competed alongside 10 other schools, earning a runner-up finish as a team while winning two of the four disciplines.

Midland was the top team in American Trip with a score of 495. Ben Swanson had a perfect score of 100 while Grayson Stuart, Michael Martinez, and Audric Scheidel were all one target away with 99s. Scoring 98s to tie for the final spot on the five-person team score were Mason Andelin, Devin Huguenot, and Adin Doll. Swanson earned the individual award for the event after winning a shoot-off (30-28) over Malachi Drennan of Fort Hays State.

Doubles Trap saw the Warriors come away with the top score as they fired a 471. Stuart and Atley Painter led the way with a score of 97. Rounding out the team were Dalton Blaha (93), Scheidel (92), and Brayden Bliss (92). Stuart and Painter were the top two individuals and went head-to-head in a shoot-off. Stuart edged his teammate, 10-7, to take the top honors.

Midland shot a 493 in American Skeet, tying for the top team score along with Fort Hays State. In the shoot-off, the Tigers edged the Warriors, 8-7, to win the event. Andelin was the lone perfect scorer individually with a 100. Comprising the rest of the MU team were Doll (99), Chase Carrere (99), Domenic Teixeira (99), and Bliss (96).

Sporting Clays saw the Warriors finish as runners-up as they shot a 430, just behind the Tigers' who scored a 441. Leading the charge for Midland was Painter with a score of 91. He tied for the top overall spot and won a shoot-off (6-5) against Logan Smith of FHSU. Martinez (86), Bliss (85), Carrere (84), and Teixeira (84) rounded out the top five for MU.

Atley Painter, Brayden Bliss, Ben Swanson, Grayson Stuart, and Amy Cawley each earned All-Conference honors. Stuart, Cole Kennedy, and Kassy Gonzalez were named to the Freshman All-Conference team as well.

Next up for the Warriors this fall is the Wayne State Invite in two weeks. They'll travel down to Lincoln for the two-day day shoot taking place on October 14 and 15.
