Warriors Place Third at Home Shooting Invite
LINCOLN, Neb. – Over the weekend, Midland University hosted its annual Warrior Invitational at the Lincoln Trap and Skeet Club. Competing in three different disciplines, the Warriors placed third overall while winning the skeet event.
In trap, Midland shot a score of 487 as a team just behind Fort Hays State and Concordia who tied for second with a 491. William Penn won the event with a score of 493.
Tucker Engelmann and Devin Huguenot paced the Warriors with scores of 98. Mason Andelin, Ben Swanson, and Dalton Blaha were all one target behind at 97.
Midland also placed fourth in sporting clays, finishing with a team score of 417. Hastings edged them by a solo target while William Penn (446) and Fort Hays State (435) were the top two schools.
Adin Doll led the way for Midland with an 86 while Cole Kennedy was just two behind at 84. Amy Cawley scored an 83 while Ben Swanson and Chase Carrere rounded out the team with scores of 82.
In the skeet event, Mason Andelin and Grayson Stuart had scores of 100 to lead the Warriors. Just missing out on perfect rounds with 99s were Devin Huguenot, Brayden Bliss, and Domenic Teixeira.
The HOA individual awards went to William Penn's Colton Uitermarkt (289) and FHSU's Emily Miller (281).
"It's tough to run a shoot and compete in it as well, especially in one as large as ours," commented head coach Jake McThenia. "We started hot on Friday in skeet with some monster scores but then kind of stalled out over the rest of the weekend. We left a lot of targets out there on sporting and trap that we shouldn't have. We'll work on those this week before our conference shoot. We've got to go out and do our jobs this upcoming weekend."
Midland will compete in the Prairie Circuit Conference Championships. The meet will take place in North Platte, Nebraska from September 29 to October 1.
