
Warriors Send Shooters to Spring Events
TUCSON, Ariz. – Midland University sent a group of shooters to compete in the Jack Link's Cup and the Spring Grand American last week down in Florida and Arizona. The Warriors escaped the Midwest's winter weather and had a solid showing at both events.
Jack Link's Cup
Midland had just one competitor down in Okeechobee, Florida with John Callaway competing. He shot an 82 of 100 in the North Prelim to place first in the D-Class. He followed that up with an 80 of 100 in the Blue Prelim. He was tied for first but lost on the reverse long run.
Thursday saw another first-place score as he shot 88 of 100 in the Red Prelim. In his final two events before the main event, he placed third in the five-stand (78/100) and third in super sporting (87/100). In the main event, he had a score of 159 or 200 and placed first in the D-Class.
Spring Grand American
Midland send six shooters down to the Spring Grand American down in Tucson and had a strong showing throughout the event.
Brayden Bliss was the junior gold champion in Premier Singles (99/100), Yuma Doubles (98/100), Tucson Doubles Class (97/100), and the Winchester Ammunition Handicap (93/100). He added a runner-up finish in the Tucson Singles Class (100/100, lost in a shootout).
Alex Voyles was the junior gold champ in the Prescott Handicap (90/100).
In the Spring Grand Doubles Championship, Bernardino Manuel was the AA Class Champ (91/100) while Devin Huguenot was the junior gold champ (89/100).
Manuel added a fourth-place finish in the Caesar Guerini Prelim Handicap (92/100) while Huguenot was the junior gold champion (93/100).
In the Browning Singles Championship, Huguenot was stellar. He went 200 for 200 and then hit another 25 in the shoot-off to win the event. Audric Scheidel was the junior gold champ, going 199 for 200.
Huguenot rounded out his week with a junior gold runner-up in the Winchester Ammunition Handicap, going 92 for 100. He was named the Junior Gold HAA (high all-around) for his performances.
