Warriors Secure Pair of Top Three Finishes at Grand View Comps

DES MOINES, Iowa – Less than 48 hours after opening the season at its home invite, Midland University traveled to Des Moines, Iowa to compete in the Grand View Invitational and Vikings Classic on Sunday afternoon.

The Warriors faced six teams in the Viking Classic. The first competition of the day included cheer teams from Waldorf University, Mount Mercy University, Baker University, Xavier University of Louisiana, Saint Ambrose University, and the host Grand View University.

The Warriors had jitters in their first performance of the day, taking third place with a score of 81.94. The reigning national champions, Saint Ambrose, took first place with a score of 91.98, followed by Xavier in second with 87.74. Baker took fourth with 68.36, followed by Grand View with fifth place at 67.94, Mount Mercy in sixth with 67.49, and Waldorf in the seventh spot with a score of 51.67.

In their second performance of the day, the Warriors overcame their nerves in the Grand View Invitational, increasing their score by 5.93 points to boost their way to second place with 87.87. Saint Ambrose clinched the first spot once more with 91.29. Grand View followed in third with 77.87, Mount Mercy took fourth with 70.04, Baker was fifth with 67.17, and Waldorf placed sixth with a score of 52.46.

"After a tough first round the team bounded back stronger," commented head coach Kayla Rojas. "They were much more proud of their second performance and it was so much fun to see them all having a blast out there! We are ready to gear up over the next two weeks, add some new elements, and build off those!"

Midland will take a short break before its next competition day. They will travel to Seward, Nebraska to compete in the Concordia Day of Duals on February 10.
