Warriors Drop Pair of Games in Texas on Opening Day

FORT WORTH, Texas – Midland University opened its 2025 season with a two-day road trip in Texas, beginning with a doubleheader against Texas Wesleyan on Friday afternoon. The Warriors battled hard but came up short, falling 8-5 in the opener and 2-1 in the nightcap.

GAME ONE: Texas Wesleyan 8, Midland 5

Josh Hardamon got the Warriors off to a strong start, driving an RBI double to right field in the first inning. Hadyn Crawford followed with an RBI single to center, bringing home Hardamon to give Midland a 2-0 lead.

Texas Wesleyan answered in the bottom half of the inning, tallying two hits and pushing across a run to cut the deficit to 2-1.

After a scoreless second, the Rams erupted in the third, collecting three hits and plating four runs to take a 5-2 advantage.

Midland broke its scoring drought in the fifth. Eimir Perez reached base after being hit by a pitch, and pinch-hitter Cooper Benecke followed with an RBI double to trim the deficit to 5-3.

Texas Wesleyan responded in the bottom of the frame, tacking on three more runs to extend its lead to 8-3.

The Warriors looked to rally in the seventh. Jacob Liquori led off by reaching first on a wild pitch, and Perez followed with a double to move him to third. Pinch-hitter Dax Wandler was hit by a pitch to load the bases, setting up Nathaniel Reyes, who delivered an RBI single to center, scoring Liquori and Perez. Alec Villanueva followed with a single to reload the bases, but Texas Wesleyan held firm, recording three outs to secure the 8-5 victory.

GAME TWO: Texas Wesleyan 2, Midland 1

The Rams struck first in the bottom of the second, stringing together three hits to plate a run for a 1-0 lead.

Midland answered in the third. Villanueva reached base after being hit by a pitch, and Hardamon followed with a double to right field, driving in Villanueva to even the score at 1-1.

The teams remained locked in a pitchers' duel until the bottom of the seventh. Texas Wesleyan put two runners aboard with a pair of hits, then capitalized on a wild pitch to score the go-ahead run and secure a 2-1 win.

Up next, Midland (0-2) will face (RV) Houston-Victoria (6-1) in a neutral-site doubleheader on Saturday, Feb. 8. First pitch is scheduled for 12 p.m. in Fort Worth.
