
No. 5 Warriors Sweep Three-Game Series at Utah
PARK CITY, Utah — The No. 5-ranked Midland University women's hockey team showcased their dominance on a road trip to Salt Lake City, sweeping a three-game series against the University of Utah. The Warriors opened with a 5-1 victory on Thursday, followed by a 6-0 shutout on Friday, and closed the series with a 5-2 win on Saturday.
THURSDAY: Midland 5, Utah 1
Midland wasted no time establishing momentum, scoring two early goals to take a commanding lead. Kennedy Wood opened the scoring at 7:32 in the first period off a feed from Sky Thompson, and Jaicee Huberdeau doubled the lead just 20 seconds later, assisted by Callie Maguire. Utah cut the deficit to one before the intermission.
In the second period, Brynn Tosh extended the Warriors' lead, netting a goal assisted by Brooke Barylski. Midland capitalized on a Utah penalty early in the third period as Taylor Bell scored on the power play with help from Grace Page. Wood closed out the scoring with her second goal of the night, again assisted by Thompson.
Meghan Stewart earned the win in net with 17 saves, as the Warriors outshot the Utes 45-18.
FRIDAY: Midland 6, Utah 0
The Warriors struck quickly in game two, with Darbi Poole scoring just 38 seconds in off an assist from Grace Page. After a scoreless stretch, Midland erupted in the second period. Jaicee Huberdeau scored twice, with assists from Makenna Larson and Brooke Barylski, while Page and Taylor Bell also found the back of the net, with Page tallying three points in the period.
Huberdeau added her third point in the final period with an assist on Rylee Martin's goal. Natalie Rampton secured a 14-save shutout as Midland dominated the shot count, 50-14.
SATURDAY: Midland 5, Utah 2
The series finale featured a hat trick from Callie Maguire, who opened the scoring at 5:46 in the first period and later added goals in the second and third periods. The Utes briefly answered the initial tally, tying the game at 1-1 before Maguire's second goal put Midland ahead for good.
Sky Thompson and Makenna Larson also contributed goals for the Warriors, while Utah added a late power-play goal to round out the scoring.
Rampton made 14 saves in the win as Midland outshot Utah 44-16.
Midland (13-5) will get a few weeks to recover from its long bus trip before hopping back on for a trip to face No. 14 Jamestown (4-9-2). The two Women's Midwest College Hockey (WMCH) rivals will face off on December 13-14 in Jamestown, North Dakota. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. on Friday and 3:00 p.m. on Saturday inside John L. Wilson Arena.
