No. 17 Warriors Open New Year with Pair of Setbacks at No. 2 Minot State

MINOT, N.D. – No. 17-ranked Midland University faced a tough road challenge against No. 2-ranked Minot State University this weekend, falling 8-0 on Saturday and 6-0 on Sunday inside Maysa Arena. The losses drop the Warriors to 13-13-1 on the season as they gear up for a crucial home series against No. 5-ranked Jamestown later this month.

SATURDAY: Minot State 8, Midland 0

The Warriors struggled to contain Minot State's high-powered offense in the weekend opener. The Beavers scored three goals in the first period and never looked back, adding three more in the second and two in the third to secure the 8-0 victory.

Liam Tereposky made 38 saves in the loss while his counterpart collected 22 saves. The Warriors were 0-for-4 on the power play, while the Beavers capitalized on all three of their man-advantage opportunities and outshot their guests, 46 to 22.

SUNDAY: Minot State 6, Midland 0

Midland looked to rebound in the second game of the series but ran into more of the same from the Beavers. Minot State opened the scoring with a power-play goal in the first period and added five more over the final two periods to earn a 6-0 win.

Tereposky stood tall with 32 saves, but the Warriors' offense was held in check by the Beavers' netminder who tallied 20 saves and a shutout. The Beavers went 3-for-6 on the power play, while the Warriors went 0-for-4.

Midland (13-13-1) will look to bounce back when it returns to Sidner Ice Arena in Fremont, Nebraska, on January 17-18 to host No. 5-ranked Jamestown (16-5-0). Puck drop is set for 8:30 p.m. on Friday and 7:30 p.m. on Saturday.
