Warriors Sweep No. 21 Illinois State on Home Ice

FREMONT, Neb. – Midland University hosted No. 21-ranked Illinois State University for Homecoming Weekend series on Friday and Saturday. The Warriors achieved a clean sweep at home, winning game one 5-3 and game two 5-2 over the ranked Redbirds in Midwest College Hockey (MCH) play.

FRIDAY: Midland 5, Illinois State 3

Mathew Kochanowski netted two power-play goals in the first period. The first came at the 4:36 mark, assisted by Jared Wisely and Milan Breczko, while the second followed at 3:07, with assists from Leo Milan and Breczko. The Redbirds scored their first goal in the second period at the 13:00 mark. Breczko extended Midland's lead with another power-play goal at 6:30, assisted by Kochanowski and Jack Olson, making it 3-1. In the third period, the Redbirds struck first, scoring at the 11:00 mark, but Zachary Weber quickly answered for Midland with a goal at 11:53, assisted by Isaac Hood. Logan Wotton kept the Warriors' momentum going with an unassisted goal at 2:17. Midland emerged victorious with a 5-3 win over Illinois State, with Liam Tereposky making 33 saves in goal.

SATURDAY: Midland 5, Illinois State 2

Jack Olson put the Warriors on the board first in the opening period at the 10:42 mark, assisted by Logan Wotton and Zach Weber. Shortly after, Matthew Kochanowski extended the lead with a goal at 9:15, assisted by Tommy Babb, making it 2-0. Olson struck again early in the second period, scoring at 15:29 with an assist from Milan Breczko. Illinois State responded with a goal at 5:21 to close out the second period. The Redbirds opened the third period with another goal at 18:49. However, Zak Justice reignited the Warriors' momentum, scoring at 12:42 with assists from Ethan Brown and Tommy Babb. Isaac Hood sealed the victory with a final goal at 3:27, assisted by Kochanowski and Breczko. The Warriors triumphed with a 5-2 win over Illinois State, and Liam Tereposky made 32 saves in goal.

After a weekend off, Midland (5-7, 4-3 MCH) will travel to Ames, Iowa, to take on Iowa State (1-7, 1-5 MCH) on Friday, November 1 before returning home for the second game of the weekend series. Both games are scheduled to start at 7:30 p.m.
