Gaining 11 varsity letters in football, basketball, and track and acknowledged as one of Midland College's hardwood greats, Richard Wilson captained the 1933 Midland "Merry Magician" basketball team to national recognition for four conference championships and a record of 36 victories in 40 games. His coaching career spanned 43 years from high schools in Nebraska, Massachusetts, and California to Colgate University, completing 29 years at Amherst University. Special achievements in government service included basketball clinics in Chile and Burma as well as volunteer hospital service. He served as chairman of the National Association of Basketball Coaches Membership Committee.
