Bio
Lori Briscoe Szwanek, '88, played basketball during her tenure at Midland Lutheran College, earned four varsity letters, and served as team captain for two years. She was selected twice as the team's Most Valuable Player. Records she set at Midland include 36 points in a single game and career field goals (.568). Records that still stand are most free throws in a game (16/19), most free throws in a season (128), and highest field goal percentage in a season (.594). Szwanek is the eighth all-time scorer in Midland history with 1,351 points. She was named: Omaha World-Herald Small College Athlete of the Year in 1988 and a member of the World-Herald All-State College women's basketball team, Lincoln Journal Star All-State, NIAC All-Conference, NAIA All-American, NAIA Academic All-American, and Kodak All-District. Other honors include the Frank Hesselroth Award (the highest national award presented by the NAIA to a junior basketball athlete, male or female), the Women's Basketball Coaches Association Baden Scholarship Award (the highest national award presented by the WBCA to a female basketball player in any division) and Midland's Outstanding Woman Athletic Award in 1988. Szwanek, a CPA in Omaha, is inducted into the Midland Warrior Athletic Hall of Fame for her outstanding athletic achievements.
