Duane Spale, '75, the 1974 Petrow Award winner, was a stand-out in both football and indoor and outdoor track during his four years at Midland. He was the recipient of All-Conference, All-District, and Little American honors, and was a member of the Warrior football team which won the Mineral Water Bowl game in 1974. Duane earned a master's degree in physical education at Wayne State College in 1980. He served as head track coach from 1976-86, and head football coach from 1978-86 at Pierce High School in Pierce, Nebraska, leading the football team to a class C-1 state championship in 1978. Duane is currently the head football coach at Grand Island Northwest High School and volunteers as a basketball coach at the YMCA. The recipient of Midland College's "Outstanding Young Alumni" award in 1988, Duane is recognized once again this year for his outstanding athletic and coaching talents. It is the College's honor to induct Duane Spale into the Warrior Hall of Fame.
