Before coming to the College, he had served for 13 years as a coach and athletic director at Fremont High School. His accomplishments at the high school level earned him the position of assistant coach at the first University of Nebraska Shrine Bowl and head coach of the North team at the second Shrine Bowl. Art retired from Midland in 1991, after more than 25 years of dedicated service to the College. His tenure as a Midland athletic coach is the longest in the College's history. He is inducted into the Midland Warrior Athletic Hall of Fame in recognition of his outstanding athletic achievements and dedication to the College's athletic programs.
