Recognized as Midland College's greatest all-around athlete and honored for athletic team leadership, George "Babe" Petrow, winner of 10 varsity letters in three years in football, basketball, track, and tennis, gained fame as a member of the 1941 Little Giants undefeated and untied football team. A two-year all-conference honoree in football and basketball, he was Midland's first four varsity letter winner in one year. He gave his life in service to his country. Missing in action as a paratrooper over Holland in 1944, he is memorialized through the Petrow Memorial Award given annually to the outstanding all-around athlete of Midland University.
