Bio
The 1952 Petrow Award bestowed on Robert W. Penney testifies to his distinctive athletic career. An all-state high school athlete, Babe Penney gave Midland four years of athletic excellence in football and basketball. He also lettered in baseball and golf. In all of his varsity sports, he proved himself to be an accomplished athlete and teammate. After his Midland years, he upheld the Midland ideal serving as a role model for the young men and women whose lives he has influenced. After successful coaching and teaching years at Scribner, Leigh, and Omaha North high schools, he became athletic director of Omaha Benson in 1967. His contribution to high school sports was recognized by his peers when we received the 1986 Nebraska Atheltic Director's Association Distinguished Service Award. In the same year, the Metropolitan High School Activity Association presented him with the 1986 Award of Distinction.
