Bio
Karen M. Martin, ’86, was a standout in Basketball and Outdoor Track and Field at Midland. Karen was a Team Captain in Basketball in 1984-85 and 1985-86 and she helped guide Midland to the NAIA National Basketball Tournament in ’85. Karen was named to the Honorable Mention All-State College Team in ’86 when she averaged 8.8 points per game and 4.9 rebounds per game. She earned NAIA Scholar-Athlete honors in 1985 and 1986. On the track, Karen qualified for the NAIA National Outdoor Track and Field Championship Meet in 1983, ’84, ’85, and ’86, earning NAIA All-America Honors in the Heptathlon in ‘86. At the District Championship Meet, Karen was District Runner-up in the Heptathlon in 1983 and the District Champion in the Heptathlon in 1984, ’85, ‘and ’86. Additionally, she was the District Champion in the 400 Intermediate Hurdles in ’86. At the conference level, Karen was a 3-time individual champion in the Javelin (’85 and ’86) and the 400 Intermediate Hurdles (’86). Karen currently ranks in the top 10 at Midland in the 400 Meter Hurdles, the High Jump, and the Javelin. She earned NAIA Scholar-Athlete honors in 1985 and 1986 and she was named Outstanding Woman Athlete at Midland in 1986. Karen earned her Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Midland in 1986. She has worked at UPS for the past 32 years and is currently the Business Manager for St. Joseph, Chillicothe, and Higginsville centers (all in Missouri). Karen and her partner, LaNell Cox, live in Kansas City, MO. Karen M. Martin is inducted into the Warrior Athletic Hall of Fame for her outstanding athletic accomplishments.
