Bio

John Konecky, '85, participated in basketball and golf at Midland from 1981-1985 and he was an integral part of the basketball program as an assistant coach to Rich McGill for 24 years from 1987-2011. As a member of the basketball program from '81-'85, John was a three-year starter for Coach McGill. He helped guide the Warriors to increased win totals each of his four years, highlighted by a win over Hastings College for the first time in 15 years. For his career, John scored 687 points, grabbed 553 rebounds, and handed out 170 assists in 110 games played. As an assistant coach, John played a pivotal role in helping Midland reach the NAIA National Tournament in 1990 and 2000, the first two berths into the National Tournament in school history. John was highly respected as a coach for his positive work ethic, consistently and effectively working with Coach McGill to help players achieve their potential, not only on the basketball floor but also in the classroom and in their daily life after college. In addition to coaching basketball, John also assisted the athletic department by providing game-day administration for home football games, track meets, and district tournaments. John also lent his expertise to the athletic department as its resident IT expert. John graduated from Midland in 1985, earning his bachelor's degree in Math and Computer Science and in Secondary Education. He worked at Valmont Industries for 28 years and is currently the CAD System Supervisor. John currently lives in Fremont. John Konecky is inducted into the Warrior Athletic Hall of Fame for his outstanding athletic contributions and accomplishments during a 28-year period.
