Bio

Rupert Hilgenkamp, '58, was a standout in football and track and field at Midland. A four-year letterman in football, he played both offensive and defensive tackle for the Warriors. Rupert earned Honorable Mention All-Conference honors in the Nebraska College Conference (NCC). In track and field, Rupert excelled in Shot Put and Discus. As a freshman, Rupert was already dominant in the Shot Put and Discus, breaking school records in his first year at Midland. In 1957, Rupert again set school records several times in the Shot Put and ended the season with the best mark in the state. He also held the school record for Discus for several years. At the NAIA District II Track and Field Meet in Lincoln, Midland relied heavily on Rupert to lead the Warriors to success. Also in 1957, Rupert participated in the Kansas Relays. Throughout his four years at Midland, Rupert not only attended school full-time, but he also farmed full-time on the family farm in Arlington. Until the age of 50, Rupert continued to compete in organized athletics, playing competitive fastpitch softball as a catcher and playing competitive basketball. Rupert's passion for athletics was handed down to each of his four children, which in turn was handed down to each of his nine grandchildren. Rupert and his wife, Karen, live in Arlington, Nebraska. Rupert Hilgenkamp is inducted into the Warrior Athletic Hall of Fame for his outstanding athletic achievements.
