Bio
The values for which Midland Lutheran College stands are embodied in Rodney R. Farmer, ’53, a basketball, baseball, and tennis standout who went on to achieve a national reputation for his work with the YMCA. While at Midland, he led the basketball team in scoring his junior and senior years, and was captain of the tennis team, leading them to a conference title. Rod has spent his professional career with the YMCA, first as a camp leader and staffer, then as physical education director, executive director, and president of various YMCAs. Currently, he is a senior campaign consultant for the national organization. Rod’s service to the community is equally impressive. He served through the Lions Club Rotary, United Way, Governor’s Council on Physical Fitness and Recreation, and as a member of his church council. Rod is as much a success professionally and personally as he was on the playing field. He is a worthy candidate for induction into the Hall of Fame.
