Duane Berkey, '50, participated in both football and basketball while at Midland. A three-year letter-winner in football, Berkey handled all of the punting and place-kicking duties during his playing days. One of the many highlights of his career was in a game against Yankton College in 1949. In a 7-0 Warrior victory, Berkey placed all three of his punts inside the Yankton 5-yard line, keeping Yankton pinned deep in their own territory. A Business Education and Physical Education major at Midland, Berkey was involved with high school athletics for 2 years in Sargent, Nebraska, and for 5 years in Collbran, Colorado. In 1965, Berkey began working for State Farm Insurance, retiring in 1994. He currently lives in Davenport, Nebraska. Berkey is inducted into the Warrior Athletic Hall of Fame for his outstanding athletic accomplishments.
