Strong Start Not Enough as Warriors Fall to Mayville State

BELLEVUE, Neb. – Midland University closed out the calendar year with a game in the Four Points by Sheraton Bruin Classic on Monday, taking on Mayville State University. The Warriors fell to the Comets, 66-58, in a nonconference matchup inside the Gordon Lozier Athletic Center on the campus of Bellevue University.

The Warriors started strong, building an early lead behind efficient shooting and solid defense. Grace Holm connected on a pair of three-pointers, while Erin Foxhall contributed six points in the opening quarter. Despite Midland's rhythm and intensity, Mayville State responded in the second quarter to remain within striking distance.

In the third quarter, momentum shifted as the Comets outscored the Warriors to take their first lead of the game. Mayville State capitalized on free-throw opportunities and several Midland turnovers to carry a four-point advantage into the fourth.

Midland made a strong push in the final quarter, with Foxhall and Holm providing timely baskets to keep the game close. Sarah Shepard's dominance on the boards created second-chance opportunities, but the Comets made key plays down the stretch to secure the victory.

Erin Foxhall paced the Warriors with 16 points, seven rebounds, and two assists. Grace Holm added 12 points, five rebounds, and three assists, while Sarah Shepard pulled down 13 rebounds and contributed six points and four assists. Jenna Weber added a spark off the bench, scoring 10 points, including two three-pointers.

Midland (1-12, 1-6 GPAC) will aim to rebound as it returns to conference play later this week. The Warriors visit Waldorf (3-9, 1-6 GPAC) on Thursday, January 2, at 4 p.m. in Forest City, Iowa. The matchup marks the first meeting between the two schools as members of the Great Plains Athletic Conference.
