Warriors Open Outdoor Season at Bethel Open

WICHITA, Kan. – Midland University track and field opened its outdoor season on Saturday, competing at the Bethel College Open. The Warriors had several strong performances, highlighted by multiple event wins.

Madison Jones claimed first place in the pole vault with a height of 2.45 meters, while Hannah Newton took the top spot in the high jump at 1.61 meters. Krista Hardy also cleared 1.61 meters but finished second due to a judge's decision. Dala Drowne and Shyanne Pipkin tied for fourth, each clearing 1.46 meters.

In the throws, Pipkin placed fifth in the javelin with a mark of 34.93 meters while Kerrigan Myers placed seventh with a throw of 31.63m. Emmalee Bartak finished 10th in the shot put at 10.65 meters.

Midland had solid performances in the jumps, with Madelynn Dougherty securing fourth place in the triple jump with a mark of 9.89 meters. Farrah Wilson finished sixth in the same event with a leap of 9.56 meters. Wilson also placed eighth in the long jump with a mark of 4.40 meters, just ahead of Dougherty, who finished ninth at 4.37 meters.

On the track, Myers turned in a dominant performance in the 100-meter hurdles, winning with a time of 14.24 seconds. Nevaeh Sarabia also claimed victory in the 800 meters with a time of 2:32.70 and added a third-place finish in the 1500 meters with a time of 5:30.61.

Joy Jepkorir led the distance runners with a first-place finish in the 5000 meters, crossing the line in 20:55.13. Maddie Bergstrom followed in second place with a time of 21:24.26.

Rianna Greene recorded a ninth-place finish in the 100 meters with a time of 13.06 seconds and later placed fifth in the 400 meters at 1:04.38. Aurora Griffin finished just behind Greene in the 100 meters, taking 10th place with a time of 13.07 seconds.

In the 1500 meters, Carly Carstens finished sixth with a time of 5:41.62, Magdalena De la O placed eighth at 5:55.28, and Belinda Jepkemboi came in ninth with a time of 6:09.38.

Midland will continue its outdoor season next weekend at the Central Nebraska Challenge. The meet will take place in Kearney, Nebraska on Saturday, March 29, beginning at 11:00 a.m.
