FREMONT, Neb. – Midland University took on Morningside University in a Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) matchup on Saturday night on its home turf. After 90 minutes of play, the Warriors and Mustangs were held scoreless, each earning a point in the conference standings in the 0-0 draw. With the result, Midland moves to 3-6-4 overall and 1-2-4 in the conference.
Morningside had an edge in shot attempts on the night with 14 to 3 overall and a 4 to 3 advantage of shots on the frame. Each team put forth a solid defensive strategy in front of their keepers. Physical play by the two sides resulted in 20 fouls throughout.
Marco Moresco earned the shutout in net. He played the complete game and had four saves including a spectacular stop on a penalty kick in the first half.
"Amazing performance from Marco in goal. He saved the penalty kick and then made an incredible late save with 14 seconds left on the clock," stated head coach Josh Nakayama. "He has been immense this season. He more than earned the shutout."
This season, Moresco has 59 saves which ranks second in the conference through 13 games in goal.
"Offensively, we need to figure out our attack," added Coach Nakayama. "That is something to work on going forward now. This team has dealt with all kinds of adversity, and I know we have the ability to push for greatness."
Midland (3-6-4, 1-2-4 GPAC) will be on the road to take on Doane (3-5-5, 1-3-3 GPAC) next week. The conference matchup will occur on Wednesday, October 18, in Crete, Nebraska, beginning at 5:00 p.m.
