Warriors Concede Home Contest to No. 3 Webber International

FREMONT, Neb. – It was a battle of Warriors on Wednesday in Fremont as Midland University hosted No. 3 Webber International University at Heedum Field. Webber showed why it vaulted up to its current ranking as it defeated Midland, 19-2.

In the early going of the game, it looked like it might be a defensive battle as neither team scored through the first eight minutes of the game clock. With 6:32 left though, Webber punched home the first goal of the contest. By the end of the first period, they would add three others to take a 4-0 lead.

Carson Meier got Midland on the board at the beginning of the second. In the first two minutes, he took possession behind the goal and connected on a wrap-around shot as he beat his defender one-on-one just to the left of the goalie.

Two minutes later, Webber scored its fifth goal of the game and started a run of a dozen unanswered goals that stretched through halftime and the entirety of the third quarter. At the intermission, they led 9-1 on the scoreboard while they outshot Midland 26 to 7.

After a 5-0 third quarter and two more added to the Webber lead in the fourth, Landon Scialla scored for Midland. With 3:47 to go in the contest, he took a feed from Meier from behind the net and fired it to the top right corner for the score.

Webber would tack on three more goals before the final buzzer, taking the first game of its three-game Midwest road trip by a final score of 19-2. Webber outshot Midland 47 to 17 for the game and took advantage of 14 of 25 faceoff wins in the starting circle.

Nick Luedke led MU in shots with five on the evening while Tyler Renshaw, Asher Thomas, Meier, and Scialla all had a pair. CJ Salinas was dealt the loss in goal. He had 13 saves including several tough stops from close range.

Midland (2-7, 0-1 KCAC)) will shift its attention back to conference action next week as they host rival Ottawa (5-3, 2-0 KCAC) on Monday. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m. on the turf at Heedum Field on April 10, following the women's game at 4:00 p.m.
