Bio

Lu Heller, '47, served as sports editor for The Midland for three years and editor/sports editor/assistant business manager of the Warrior during his student career at Midland. He was recognized for his efforts as the official Warrior Athletic Historian. He participated in intramurals. Upon graduation, Heller became sports editor at the Fremont Guide and Tribune and then held similar positions in Alliance; Scottsbluff; Bartlesville, Oklahoma, and Spencer, Iowa. He then turned to teaching and coaching, a career that spanned more than 30 years and until he retired in 1986 from Clay Central Senior High School in Royal, Iowa. During his career, Heller coached football, basketball, track, cross country, and volleyball. Heller's contributions to MLC have been great. He compiled a history of Midland Athletics dating from 1887 to 1948 with detailed information on football, basketball, baseball, track, tennis, and golf. In 1991, he produced a resource book titled "A Century of Football at Midland Lutheran College," presenting a detailed account of Warrior football from 1892 to 1991. Heller is inducted into the Midland Warrior Athletic Hall of Fame for his dedication and support of Midland athletics.
